Gianclaudio Malgieri is an Attorney at Law and a doctoral researcher at LSTS - VUB, where he is Work Package Leader of EU H2020 PANELFIT Project, for the development of Legal & Ethical Guidelines on Data Processing Consent and Automated Decision-making in ICT Research in the EU.
His thesis project focuses on the unfair imbalance between data controllers and new vulnerable individuals in the automated decision-making environment. He also conducts research on Surveillance, data ownership, privacy-by-design and intellectual privacy.
He is lecturer of Data Protection Law and Intellectual Property for undergraduate and professional courses at the University of Pisa and Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. Gianclaudio is also qualified to practice Law in Italy: he is Senior Associate for a law firm, where he also worked at the development of GDPR compliance software. He also works for the Brussels Privacy Hub, helping coordinate training activities.
He got an LLM with honours at the University of Pisa and a JD with honours at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa (Italy). He was visiting student at the Oxford University, London School of Economics, World Trade Institute of the University of Bern and École Normale Superieure de Paris. He has published more than 25 articles in leading international law reviews, including the Italian Handbook of Personal Data Protection.
