[Synergy] The LSTS is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Online Dispute Resolution, Privacy & Personal Data Protection’ sub-group of the 'Digital Law’ Special Interest Group (SIG) of the European Law Institute (ELI) in Vienna. The said sub-group is co-founded and co-chaired by Dr Marco Giacalone and Dr Dariusz Kloza.
Its goal is twofold: first, it addresses the use of out-of-court dispute settlement mechanisms, procured with the aid of digital technologies, such as online dispute resolution (ODR), for settling disputes arising from privacy and personal data protection law. Second, this sub-group addresses the protection of privacy and personal data in the functioning of ODR mechanisms. This sub-group constitutes a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas, and a trigger for further collaboration (publications, research grants, events, etc.).
At its launch, the sub-group comprises more than a dozen experts in the field – academics and practitioners, at various levels of seniority – and is open to any ELI member interested in ODR, privacy and personal data protection law. An official launch event will follow in late 2020, during the ELI Annual Conference.
