[Event] On 15 October 2020, Prof. Gloria González Fuster will participate in the panel 'Show us your face, we tell you who you are? Facial recognition in criminal investigations' (15:00-15:45 CEST), part of the Online Conference 'EDEN goes to the Island – 5th EDEN Event on Data Protection in Law Enforcement', organised by the Academy of European Law (ERA) in cooperation with Europol and Europol's Data Protection Experts Network (EDEN).
This online conference will take place on a virtual "island" and aims to allow stakeholders from various backgrounds including law enforcement, representatives of relevant private parties, academia, NGOs, regulators, legislators, etc. to engage in detailed discussions about the interlink between "Big Data", Artificial Intelligence and data protection.
The main discussion topics include: Surveillance capitalism/mass surveillance in the digital world; AI and Big Data - challenges in the area of law enforcement; Facial recognition – our new best friend in criminal investigations?; Deep fakes, blockchain, 5G and future trends; Masters of the crystal ball – Project 2020 in review; Radicalisation.
The talks will be followed by a social event and an artistic programme on the island's virtual "beach". Thierry Vandenbussche of the Privacy Salon is involved in curating the accompanying artistic programme.
