The French Embassy in Belgium, AI4Belgium and the VUB are joining forces to organize a conference examining the role of data governance in the fight against epidemics. Prof. Dr. Gloria Gonzalez Fuster from the VUB will be one of the intervenants during the roundtable discussion.
In the global fight against COVID-19, some countries have distinguished themselves by the effective use of personal data in tools. In the light of lessons learned in the fight against the pandemic, French and Belgian digital actors are now preparing for the future: the European health revolution will be a digital one. The use of personal data is indeed a major additional step for the accessibility of patients to their information and personalized monitoring of their health, and appears to be a major ally in the protection of public health. Within the legal framework of the GDPR, which ensures the confidentiality of personal data for each individual, the question arises of the fair reconciliation between data protection and use of the latter in favor of the health of the citizen. The French and Belgian speakers, present both on the front lines of the fight against epidemics and on the front lines of technological innovation, will discuss the contemporary and future opportunities and challenges of data governance in this context.
