On 3 June 2019, LSTS researcher Gianclaudio Malgieri was invited by INRIA to give a talk on "Legibility of AI in the GDPR and other legal safeguards in the EU Member States" at the Workshop “Cybersecurity and society: on the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach" organised by the Cybersecurity Institute of the University of Grenoble Alpes (France). The event is held as part of the Global Challenges Science Week, which takes place from 3 to 6 June 2019 and brings together international experts and researchers as well as public and private stakeholders.
The workshop aims to highlight the necessity for interdisciplinary research in the field of cybersecurity and builds upon three main research topics: sustainable cybersecurity, the relationships between AI and trust and the hack-back by private actors.
Malgieri participates in the afternoon panel "Building trust in AI, building trust with AI", which focuses on challenges in transparency for social media advertising and the provision of meaningful explanation in AI decision systems from an interdisciplinary perspective. During the panel, the findings of the recent study for the European Parliament "Understanding algorithmic decision-making: Opportunities and challenges" will be presented by Claude Castelluccia and Daniel Le Métayer.
