Engaging with archives – understood as research sites, processes or concepts - is central to any meaningful attempt to grasp the functioning of our societies, and the power relations underpinning them. This is also very much the case when we want to study digital societies and their politics. In this event, two guest speakers will present their current research agenda on archives, archival practices, and something that we can call archival power. Prof. Nanna Bonde Thylstrup will present the research agenda at the heart of her ERC project Data Loss: (DALOSS): The politics of disappearance, destruction and dispossession in digital societies. With this project, Nanna seeks to empirically demonstrate data loss as an integral dynamic of digitization and big data, and to develop a conceptual framework that articulates the epistemological, ethical and political questions data loss practices, processes and events give rise to. Prof. Nora El Qadim will present her research agenda on archival policies and on the articulation of archives and power. In her current project – funded by the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) – she investigates relationships to colonial archives in Euro-African postcolonial contexts as well as in relations with indigenous communities in North America.
The event will be organised in a hybrid mode. Attendee who wants to participate the event in online mode can join us on Teams.
