Join us for the next in the HELT talks series! It is a monthly, FREE, in-person event series designed to spark important conversations at the intersection of health, law, and technology.ย
The first session of this semester is "๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐: ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ 2 ๐๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐
๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก", which will be presented by Dr Roxana Albu, a scientific researcher at Sciensano (Belgiumโs national public health institute). She will explore the ethical, legal, and societal implications that shape secondary uses of health data for research and the evolving regulatory landscape influencing scientists, data custodians, and policymakers. The discussion will highlight the role of TEHDAS 2 in shaping the implementing acts of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), a framework that will determine how omics researchers can access, link, and reuse data across borders. With the TEHDAS 2 public consultation now open for 11 new Guidelines, this is a critical moment for the research community to contribute to evidence-based governance. The session will also focus on guidance for Health Data Access Bodies (HDABs) under the EHDS, with particular attention to implementing Opt-Out mechanisms and managing the Return of Significant Findings in secondary use of data, two pivotal benchmarks in balancing individual autonomy, societal benefit, and research integrity.
