Iwan Oostrom
Biography
Iwan Oostrom is a PhD researcher at the Law, Science, Technology and Society research group (LSTS) of Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is part of DATAUNION, a project led by Prof. Dr. Rocco Bellanova and funded by the European Research Council (ERC) that analyses the practical implementation and ethicopolitical effects of EU database interoperability legislation. Within the project, Iwan aims to unpack how seemingly mundane technical decisions affect end users, data subjects and European integration.
Iwan holds an interdisciplinary BSc. with a major in Politics from the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He studied at The New School in New York, obtained an MA in European Union Studies at Leiden University, and received an MA Philosophy and Contemporary Critical Theory from Kingston University London. Prior to joining DATAUNION, Iwan was lecturer and programme coordinator at UvA’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies.
