This year, three LSTS researchers, Lina Jasmontaite, Nikolaos Ioannidis and Olga Gkotsopoulou, are participating at the VUB Doctoral Derby – the annual VUB-wide competition about communicating scientific research to a general audience!
In order of appearance:
- Lina Jasmontaite: Empowering individuals by making personal data breaches transparent
- Nikolaos Ioannidis: Impact Assessment for Artificial Intelligence Applications
- Olga Gkotsopoulou: Now you don’t ‘see’ it, now you do: Making accessibility the rule in personal data protection law
At this stage participants have prepared a popularizing research summary and are currently competing in the Doctoral Schools pre-selection round to make it to the final. The pre-selection is based on the votes of the audience and a professional jury. Each participant will present a 3-minute pitch about their research and will be called to answer questions from the jury and the audience. At the end, the three finalists will be announced, based on the jury and the audience vote.
You can join the pre-selections of the Doctoral Schools of Human and Social Sciences and watch our colleagues’ pitches in person, on Tuesday 19 April, at 17:00-18:30 Brussels time at the Auditorium D0.07 (Building D, VUB Campus Etterbeek). The event is followed by a small reception.
If you cannot make it in person, you can also attend the pre-selection online and participate in the voting via MS Teams here.
