On Tuesday 24th June, researchers from Law, Science, Technology & Society (LSTS) gathered for the 2nd annual Research Day, in the Vrije Universiteit Brussel's fantastic new Innovation Centre, organised by Simone Casiraghi, Vanessa Ugolini & Anastasiya Kiseleva.
This years theme, 'Methodological Reflections on the Relationship Between Data Law and Technology' inspired a range of intriguing exchanges and interdisciplinary exploration. Each session introduced research themes, work-in-progress and posed thought provoking questions for the future of Law, Technology, Data and AI, and the day was dovetailed by keynotes from René Mahieu and Mireille Hildebrandt on 'Contestability in Law and Fallibilism in Science'.
Presentations covered diverse topics such as generative AI in judicial processes, platform regulation, data portability, legal uses of QDA software, regulatory sandboxes, algorithmic invisibility, and rights-based versus risk-based regulatory approaches.
