LSTS researchers Barbara Lazarotto and Pablo Trigo Kramcsák will present their paper ‘Smart City Data: Resolving Public-Private Tensions in Joint Controllership’ at the Digital Legal Talks 2024, an annual conference hosted by the Digital Legal Lab, taking place in Utrecht on 28 November.
Their paper explores data governance in smart cities, focusing on public-private partnerships (PPPs). It examines the tensions between public and private sector interests in data processing, particularly in joint controllership, and evaluates the legal bases for data use in PPPs, comparing joint controllership with the controller-processor model.
