Maciej Otmianowski
Biography
Maciej is a doctoral researcher in the Law, Science, Technology and Society Research Group (LSTS) and Managing Director of the Brussels Laboratory for Data Protection & Privacy Impact Assessments (d.pia.lab) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He works under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Niels van Dijk. His research interests cover risk management in data protection and cybersecurity and behavioural law and economics.
He completed his legal studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw in 2017. He wrote his master’s thesis on behavioural law and economics and consumer protection law, for which he received an award of the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in 2018. After graduation, he worked in a legal-tech start-up, where he designed and developed a data protection risk management method that was used in a software solution – DAPR: RedIntoGreen. Previously, he gathered experience in social science research through multiple evaluations of public interventions and projects on regional and local development.
