You are warmly invited to our next Gender, Law, and Technology session for the presentation of the book "Rainbow Trap: Queer Lives, Categories and the Dangers of Inclusion" by Dr Kevin Guyan, which will take place on Wednesday 19 November 2025 from 11:30 to 13:00 CET, both in person (room C4.09) and online via Teams.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Kevin Guyan, is a writer and researcher whose work explores the intersection of data and identity. He is the author of Rainbow Trap: Queer Lives, Classifications and the Dangers of Inclusion (Bloomsbury Academic, 2025) and Queer Data: Using Gender, Sex and Sexuality Data for Action (Bloomsbury Academic, 2022). Kevin is a Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Gender + Sexuality Data Lab.
In this Guest Speaker Lecture, Dr Guyan will examine queer encounters with six different systems -ranging from hate crime reporting tools to dating apps- and show how the promise of inclusion often requires LGBTQ people to situate themselves within an ever-expanding array of classifications, categories, and labels. His talk will invite us to reflect critically on the relationship between recognition, identity, and power in contemporary digital and social landscapes.
This session offers a unique opportunity for critical engagement, and we look forward to your participation.
