We are delighted to welcome three new visiting researchers to Law, Science, Technology & Society (LSTS) in February!
Francesco Casaril is joining for four months from Open Lab - IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca. Francesco has a professional background in the space sector, working in Brussels for a trade association that represents space companies. His research focuses on the cybersecurity dimension of space infrastructure, specifically exploring the intersection between cyber threats and security policies.
Gwendolin Barnard is joining us from University of Graz and their research critically assesses how and data governance position workers as participants in mitigating, containing, and anticipating harms and risks occurring through the deployment and use of data-driven systems at work. Asking how workers are anticipated to play a role in the deployment and design (ex-ante) as well as in the scrutiny (ex post) of data-driven systems with the ultimate aim of ensuring algorithmic accountability.
Francesca Tassinari is a postdoctoral research fellow based at University of the Basque Country. Francesca's postdoctoral research focuses on critical subjects such as data protection, interoperability, and smart border, contributing to evolving discourse and policy formation in the international landscape. Her pre-doctoral project on The external reach of the interoperability of large-scale IT systems in the AFSJ, grant agreement FPU18/00497, was published by the Brill/Nijhoff editorial in 2024 with the book titled Data Protection and interoperability in EU External Relations.
