Greece recently introduced its GDPR-implementation Act (Law no. 4624/2019), that also harmonized its national law with the provisions of the Police and Criminal Justice Data Protection Directive.
Prof Vagelis Papakonstantinou was member of the law-making committee of the Greek Parliament and contributed to the drafting process.
Highlights of the regulatory issues affected by the new act’s provisions indicatively include - apart from provisions specific to the operation of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority -, the age of consent of minors, the processing of specific categories of data, the processing of personal data in the context of employment, conflicts between the right to data protection and the freedom to expression and information, provisions for the accreditation of certification bodies, as well as, criminal sanctions and administrative penalties.
