Upon the occasion of the 41st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) in Tirana, Albania from 21 to 24 October 2019, LSTS researchers participated as speakers and organisers of side events. The theme of this year's conference was 'Convergence and Connectivity: Raising global data protection standards in the digital age'.
On 22 October 2019, Professor Paul De Hert and LSTS Researcher István Böröcz organised a side event under the title 'Support Training Activities on the data protection reform (STAR)'. The event focused on the final results of the STAR project (co-funded by the European Union under its Rights, Equality and Citizenship programme (2014-2020)), which supports training activities of EU Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) and Data Protection Officers (DPOs) on the EU data protection reform, and especially on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). During the event, the speakers guided the audience through the STAR materials and, in form of a discussion, gathered their feedback and experience from training activities thereafter. Other invited speakers included Filippo Marchetti – Senior Researcher, Trilateral Research Ltd. (TRI); Júlia Sziklay – Head of Department, Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH); and Gábor Kulitsán – freedom of information expert, Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH).
On 24 October, István Böröcz participated as speaker in another side event held by Google on 'The near future of privacy-enhancing technologies'.
